Favorite book of the year: The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant. Wonderful, passionate account of a young woman during Renaissance Italy. Perfect collaboration of history, romance, and excellent writing.

Best series: SmartChicks mysteries by Mindy Starns Clark (The Trouble with Tulip, Blind Dates Can be Murder, Elementary My Dear Watkins). Soooo sweet. I loved the characters.

Best nonfiction: Confessions of a Pastor by Craig Groeschel. I am still thinking about what he said months later.

Book I never expected to like: Dream Factory by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler. It was a teen book about kids who work in DisneyWorld for a summer. Actually deeper than I thought it would be, and I enjoyed the character development!

Laughed out loud the most at: Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank by Celia Rivenbark. HILARIOUS.

  1. Good grief. I say it counts as a hundred. Us literary types aren’t meant to be so mathematically precise, after all…

I’m fascinated by your list, as well as the fact that I haven’t read any of the books on it. I’ve seen a couple of them, like Year of Wonders and the Amy Sedaris book, but never read them. How do you go about deciding what to read?
