Ultimate Blog Party 2009

Earlier this week, I posted this on Twitter:
Previous three weeks: no swaddle, up 10 times a night. Last two nights: swaddle, slept thru night. Dr. says no swaddling. SOB.

Oh, um, I just realized this looks bad! I meant sob, like crying … not for what it might stand for. Oops!!

I seriously cried over it, and then got lots of great advice to ignore the doctor, do what we needed to do for my family, etc. Which I absolutely intended to do once I went to Babies R Us and bought the bigger-sized SwaddleMes. But since I didn’t have enough energy to go to BRU after a CVS run that night, I decided to try her without the swaddler.

For the last three nights, she’s slept fine through the night without it.

Jessie, this is your life. It’s weird.

Hi, welcome to Vanderbilt Wife! If you’re visiting for the Ultimate Blog Party, I’m so glad you’ve stopped by my little blue home here. Since I’m going to one of the “In Real Life” blog parties, I thought I should join in on the fun on the Web and write a post!

I am 26, recently had my first baby, and work full-time as an editor for a Christian publisher. This blog is where I write about struggling to keep up my house, be a good wife and mom, and not lose my mind. I write some about God and my thoughts about Him and His love. I’ve also been venturing into the forays of budgeting lately–I am sure we can all use to cut back a little in the present economy! As we’ve been faced with an $800 daycare bill each month, I’ve been forced to cut corners in other places, and actually find that I really like couponing and trying to keep my grocery budget to $40.

I also write about food a lot, because I like to cook (and eat). I am a big menu planner, and I participate in Menu Plan Monday each week.

I hope you’ll go ahead and subscribe to my blog if you think these are interesting topics! You can always unsubscribe if you find me terribly boring later. 🙂

I can’t wait for tomorrow to surf around and find some great new blogs now that I understand what this Blog Party thingy is about! Again, welcome, leave me a comment to just say, “hi,” and if you’re a regular reader…I’ll be back tomorrow with some new nonsense.

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

If I were to win a prize, here are my top three picks!

I really, really, REALLY want an Ergo baby carrier (#7) so I can tote Libbie around backpack-style (eventually)!

I would LOVE to have the gift certificate to Tiny Tots with Style (#77), because ohmyword how adorable is this monogrammed dress?

Kind of random, but my third most-wanted would actually be the goat’s milk soap (#20). My hands are so dry because of the constant hand washing, laundry, washing bottles, washing pump parts…I’m interested if it would help! And the scents sound lovely: citrus basil, peach, pink grapefruit…mmm!

I certainly wouldn’t mind winning most any prize, but other top picks for me would be 21, 22, 35, 49, 52, 58, 68, 77, 88, 89, 99, 106. Pretty much anything I could go shopping with or would be useful to have/fun to have for my nearly 5-month-old!

  1. Aww so cute! We have 5 kids including 9 month old twins. Hang in there it gets easier.

Thanks for having me. Come visit me some time!

Stephanie of And Twins make 5!

  2. You sound very interesting : ) and your baby, well, she is just as adorable as can be! Oh my gosh! I hope you win the soap too. This is the second person I heard mention it. Apparently it is a big cool thing : ). Who knew?

  3. Ok you know this kind of thing drives your mom crazy cause she just wants to buy everything for you and Libbie! Boohoo if I had full time job you would be getting all this. Can’t wait to see you Thursday. Love you bunches.

ps I wondered about the sob thing…lol

  4. What an adorable angel. Forget the Ped. If your baby wants to be swaddled let her. My son is 3 and every now and then still wants to be swaddled to fall into a deep sleep.

  5. Oh the swaddle fiasco. *sigh* Asa is swaddle free and sleeps about 7 hours at night. But when he realizes he’s on his tummy, man he starts crying!

That pic of Libbie is precious! As usual.

  6. So Cute.

I have learned with my 2 1/2 year old that not everything the doctor says is what works for you child. Trust your instincts.

    Happy UBP!

  7. I had a close call on a tweet once – very similar to yours. I now do something like *sob* so my readers know it’s more of an action than a remark. Live and learn, right? BG

And, I agree with other commenters do what’s best for your family. Unless there is a medical reason to not swaddle, I’d do it. Your baby will letcha know when it isn’t comfortable for her anymore.

  8. Nice to meet you. I’m a SAHM to a three year old daughter and one on the way due anytime. We live in Murfreesboro! I have two blogs but am participating with my book blog, Teen Lit Review. Scamp’s Place is my personal blog about my life and family. I’d love it if you stopped by either one.

  9. I’m party hopping too. So nice to meet you.

I swaddled my boys for many moons. Just sayin 🙂

    Hang in there, Mama.

  10. i’m curious, why did he say no swadding? I swaddled my first til she was probably 2ish.. and she likes to be tucked in like she’s cocooning and now is 6 lol.. my other 3 .. they wouldn’t stay swaddled for the life of them!

  11. I just talked to the nurse, and I don’t think she knew what a SwaddleMe was. It seemed her main concern was the baby smothering herself with a blanket because she can move. Well, even if she got her arm out, she can’t get the SwaddleMe over her face.

But since she’s sleeping well right now without it, we’re OK! If she starts waking up a ton again, we’ll go back to swaddling.

  12. Goats milk soap is awesome! I haven’t used that particular kind but I have a lot of it and I love it. It’s helped my dry hands so much!!

  13. Those cheeks are SO EDIBLE!

Good luck with the swaddling.. how bizarre! I think I hear my little girl awake right now, but she’s supposed to be asleep.. so here’s hoping she falls back to dreamland.

Congrats on the new addition. Also, you can cook for my anytime 😉

  14. Hi there! I stopped by from the UBP!

Neither of my girls seemed to enjoy being swaddled – it’s just so funny that little ones have such strong preferences so early on!

  15. Hi – found you through the blog party. We LOVE our ergo baby carrier! My son is 15 months and still loves riding it (not on my back — on my front, the big snugglebug). We use it daily but it is especially fantastic when he is sick and can’t sleep well lying down from a stuffy nose. Good luck winning one! Our site focuses on children’s book reviews – stop on by if you’re curious. 🙂

  16. Just dropping in to meet another party guest!

It is great to meet you! You have a beautiful baby! :o) Congratulations!
