Giveaway is over. The winner of this lovely Bible is #15, Hillary, The Other Mama! I have met her in real life at Blissdom and she is a total sweetheart and a HOOT. You need to be reading her blog. 🙂 Congrats, Hillary!

I know that y’all know that I am a Christian. You might even have gathered that I am a Southern Baptist, which may or may not scare the living daylights out of you.

But although I am a Baptist by affiliation, you can rest assured knowing that being a follower of Christ is way more important to me than being a Baptist. I am sad to say that’s not always the case with denominational leanings.

I believe in the basics. Love God. Love people. I try to do those things to the best of my ability. Sometimes I fail. A lot of times, really. But I “press on to reach the end of the race” (Phil. 3:14).

I believe the Bible is the Word of God. And especially over the last five years or so, I have come to love it, passionately.

I love the nuances that are found in the original languages. I love the prophecies that are all fulfilled through Christ. I love the hope, I love the future, and I love what my Jesus did to save me.

This year I picked up a One Year Bible for Women in the New Living Translation. I LOVE this translation. No, it is not as accurate to the original as some, but I feel like it makes the meaning of the Scripture very clear. It is, simply, very easy to read.

I’m so pleased to have a beautiful NLT Bible to give away as part of my Blog-A-Versary Party. It is a lovely personal-size Bible, bonded leather in “British tan” color.

This Bible features:
Full-color maps
Presentation pages
Ribbon marker
Gilded page edge
Durable binding
Words of Christ in red
Favorite passages index

To enter, leave me a comment telling me what you would use this Bible for. Personal study? To give to a friend?

For a second entry, leave me another comment telling me what your favorite Scripture verse is (write it out, so we can see it!).

US and Canada only, please. If you don’t have an e-mail linked to your Blogger comment mechanism, please leave your e-mail addy for me in the comment so I can find you if you win! I will choose a winner on Sunday evening, July 19.

  1. What a great give-away Jessie! You know, I actually need a good new study bible so I might keep it for myself but at the same time, I love giving bibles away so if I find that it fits someone perfect … I might not be able to keep it!!

    Happy BLOG-aversary!!

  2. My favorite Bible verse:

"So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you."

    – 1 Peter 4:19

  3. My favorite verse is from Daniel. Shadrach and friends had just told Nebuchadnezzar that the God they served was able to deliver them from the furnace. The next verse is my favorite (emphasis added):

But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."
    Daniel 3:18

The total yieldedness of that little "but if not…"

  4. Oh, how i love the NLT. i'd be using this one on my nightstand for personal study and when i share conversations with the youth because i think that (as you said) sometimes it's so much more clear and relational.

  5. My favourite:

"Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love."
    ~Romans 5:2-5

  6. When I first converted I chose an NLT for teens because I was told it was so simple to understand. I fell in love with the Word!

I would love to have women's bible for bible study and MOPS this fall.

  7. Working through the entire Bible has always been a goal of mine, but I've never done it. Maybe this translation can help!

If I don't win it, I might check it out if it's available in our local Christian bookstore.

  8. My favorite verse:

    Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

    Proverbs 3:5-6

  9. Oh man, I have been looking for a good Bible to take to work with me. I would like to read this translation!

Hopefully, along the way, I would meet someone to pass it along to!

  10. By the way, my *current* favorite verse is Matthew 28:20b "And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age."

  11. OOHH! exciting!
I would use this Bible to have a nice new crisp one for study. I'm thinking about hosting another study at my house this fall and would love to have it for that! Something about a new Bible excites me- like school supplies or something. A chance to find something new all over again!

  12. OK- current favorite verse- an easy one:
Be still and know I am God. – Cried to the Kirk Franklin and TobyMac version of it this morning as a matter of fact. 🙂

  13. Hey, Jessie!

Loved this entry and had to comment, but please don't enter me in the give-away. I have two great Bibles that I love and rarely seem to get into. But I loved what you wrote and I totally laughed at Baptists scaring the living daylight out of me, because sometimes, they do! 😉 You don't, of course! What a great love letter to God's word, though…I really enjoyed reading it, and wanted to post my favorite verse:

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

    It gives me such comfort.

  14. Matthew 6:25-34
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

  15. HI! I just found your blog from Homemaker Barbi!! I just added it to my blog reader:-)

What a great giveaway! I am a new Christian – saved last summer!! I would love a chance to read this Bible. I have been reading strictly the KJV – which I love.

    Thanks for a great giveaway!!

  16. Hi! I just found your blog from the Diaper Diaries! What a great giveaway!!

I currently lead a Bible study for at a local church. I would inquire if any of these ladies could use the Bible (I live in West Michigan, and many of their husbands are unemployed!).

    Many blessings to you!!! 🙂

  17. Hi! My favorite verse is "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control. Against such things, there is no law." Galations 5:22-23

  18. I love the NLT too. I go back and forth between it and the NIV, but the NLT is so much more readable to me. Thanks for participating in TILT!! I would give this bible to my MIL as she needs a new one.

  19. My favorite verses are Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

  20. I love to compare different translations as I do my bible study. It really helps me get the full meaning of the verses
